Why Hufflepuffs aren't the "leftover" house.

For a long time, my inner Puff has been pushing me to write this. Many times I see the Hufflepuff house labeled as the leftovers, where the misfits go, or even the stoner house. While we may have some of the last two, we are NEVER the leftovers.

I found this on tumblr, from someone but I take no credit for this INCREDIBLE picture.

Hufflepuffs are known best for their, kindness, loyalty and fairness.

 "They are just and loyal
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true
And unafraid of toil."

While other houses post some pretty incredible traits, Hufflepuff's traits are also amazing. Being kind, loyal and just isn't for the faint hearted, the indifferent or the wishy-washy. Most Hufflepuffs that I know, take Puff Pride very seriously, and if they sold more Hufflepuff clothing, I'd be sporting it all of my days (not just because I love yellow).

Another common annoyance I have is, "I've been sorted to Hufflepuff, but I know I'm more (insert other house), as though being a Hufflepuff isn't cool. The truth however is Hufflepuff's make the BEST allies, we are the house to go to when you're upset or having a bad day and we will back you all the time, unless you're being unfair, and we won't have an issue calling you on it.

In the crazy world we live in kindness is a commodity, it's not something you come across a lot and when you do, it's a breath of fresh air, and while I can't speak for every Hufflepuff, I know that for me, my heart never stops expanding in love. I am your typical mother bear, I'll fight tooth and nail for my people, but I'm cuddly when you're my friend or loved one.

When the Battle of Hogwarts was just beginning, and Harry Potter was standing in the Great Hall, it was the Hufflepuff house who stood in great number next to the Gryffindors. Why? Because that is our school, these are our friends and a Hufflepuff does not abandon people in the moment of greatest need.

Also the Queen of our world, the one and only Jo Rowling has said it's her favorite house.

"Why? J.K. Rowling says to look at how they act during the Battle of Hogwarts. ‘The Hufflepuffs, virtually to a person, stay – as do the Gryffindors. Now, the Gryffindors comprise a lot of foolhardy and show-offy people… You know, there’s bravery and there’s also showboating, and sometimes the two go together. The Hufflepuffs stayed for a different reason. They weren’t trying to show off, they weren’t being reckless. That’s the essence of Hufflepuff House."

Fairness is also an undervalued trait I believe, but in this world where things can be so crazy and so many people get ahead because of unfair advantages, it's nice to have a Hufflepuff, who will try to see from all angles and determine what's the most fair or balanced option.

Finally, we have produced the least Dark Wizards of all the houses AND we are home to Nymphadora Tonks and Cedric Diggory. Two incredibly badass people who have brought some amazing recognition to our house.

So next time you see a honey badger draped in yellow and black, and you think how lame, boring or leftover we are, rethink. Yes we do live near the kitchens and our Head of House has filled our common room to the brim with plants, and some of us do happen to have green thumbs but those two things don't define us, they add some flare to an already amazing group of individuals.
